Plumbing is not a tough thing to learn. If you want to do any DIY, you can learn some of the basics and carefully put everything together. It is not that difficult. Brass elbow pipe fittings manufacturers bring different materials to talk about in this article. These materials are used for plumbing pipe.
Plumbing pipe is made from several materials, galvanized steel, copper, PVC, iron, CPVC, PEX, and polybutylene. Fittings are made from brass, plastic, malleable iron, or copper.
- Copper – this material is exceptionally used and can withstand extreme temperatures. It is used for the final connections made to central heating furnaces where temperatures may range above 100 degrees Celsius. The only drawback of this material is its rigidity. Manufacturers need special tools to bend copper fittings and alternatively, they use discrete lengths of pipes and 45 or 90 joints.
- Stainless steel – In the 70s, stainless steel plumbing was more famous due to shortage of copper. Stainless steel is more rigid as compared to copper and thus, even slight bending seems tough in case of this material. Stainless steel is supposed to be more corrosion resistant and applied for aesthetic reasons where plumbing must be exposed.
- PVC, CPVC, and PEX – Piping systems constructed from these polymers (plastic) have multiple benefits than copper. Plastic pipe is ductile and can be bent without much effort. In case of tight bend requirement, 90 degree elbow joints can be applied. Plastic has better insulation properties as compared to metal, so heat loss is minimum.
PVC or poly vinyl chloride is the basic type of plastic pipe used for both waste pipe and potable water plumbing. Chlorinated PVC or CPVC shares same properties of PVC, but these pipe materials have better corrosion resistance at higher water temperatures and are more ductile.
- Ductile iron – this material is used for gas, water, compressed air, and as a RMC for housing cables in commercial and industrial applications. It is stronger than plastic or copper but not used in domestic installation. Experts apply ductile iron or cast iron for larger diameter water mains prior introduction of plastic.
Today, PVC is ruling the plumbing industry. More plumbing requirements are catered by PVC and CPVC pipes by professionals. Brass elbow pipe fittings manufacturers have brass fittings which are used in plumbing industry along with plastic or PVC pipes.
